Because films of this book have focused on the tragic romance of Heathcliff and Cathy, it's hard to remember - until you start re-reading the book - just how unpleasant they both are: an out-and-out sociopath in love with a histrionic narcissist. And of course, at least half of the book recounts Heathcliff's revenge on the people who (as he sees it) wronged him. I read this to my husband because he had never read it, and he kept interrupting me to say "Why do people love this book?" I'm inclined to agree with him. [ 12.09.09 ]
