This book is focused primarily on commrcial clothing made with knitted fabric (starting with underwear), not handknitting. It's a strange mix of interesting information at a very superficial level - it reminded me of a museum exhibit that explains a lot but leaves many obvious questions unanswered. The illustrations are chosen primarily for their availability, apparently. Many important designers are given enthusiastic write-ups, but are not represented by even one photograph of their influential work! Not recommended for purchase; definitely recommended to borrow from the linrary if you have a high interest in couture and fashion history.  [ 03.27.12 ]
