cheeseball

the hors d'oeuvres everyone laughs at, but everyone eats
[preparation time: about 20 minutes without a food processer]
yield: 1 cheeseball

1 pound of cream cheese
1/2 pound smoked cheese (cheddar, provolone, gouda, mozzarella, it doesn't matter)
1/2 clove crushed garlic
2-3 TB grated onion (or shallot)
chopped walnuts to cover

grate the smoked cheese and mix with the cream cheese. use your food processor or your hands for best results. add the garlic and shallots. mix well. shape into a ball and press the walnuts into the cheese ball. chill.

my sister's recipe calls for:
2-3 drops worcestershire sauce
1 tsp seasoned salt

I don't do seasoned salt, and I don't see how 2-3 drops of worcestershire sauce can make a difference in a sea of cream cheese, but use your own judgement.
