.: Fans, Bloggers, and Gamers

» Fans, Bloggers, and Gamers: Media Consumers in a Digital Age, Henry Jenkins. Highly recommended.
Just fantastic. Although it's much more academic, I enjoyed this book even more than Convergence Culture because it took me inside the world of fan communities, a world I've only barely glimpsed before now.

Convergence Culture is for a more mainstream reader who wants to understand what is happening around them; this book is for those who want a deeper look at the forerunners of the current convergence, or who just generally enjoy cultural anthropology. A few of the later essays, especially those defending violence in gaming, are weak, but overall, this book is smart and very interesting. [ 10.11.06 ]
