The discovery of the association between older paternal age and risk of autism fits with the discovery of one of the gene mutations involved. Because mutations in sperm accumulate with advancing age, the way to eventually decrease the rate autism, is to encourage men to have children when they are younger and discourage fatherhood after 38-40 except with sperm frozen at an earlier age.
